On Eagles Wings

One day I was travelling home from work on the bus, drifting off to sleep.  I saw at the corner of my eye a bird of prey circling above the fields by the Ochil Hills.  Watching it through my sleepy eyes, I started to wonder what it could see all the way up there, and if it could see more than we could imagine.

About a week later, I was tinkering around on the guitar, and started to play a tune I wrote when I was a teenager.  Coincidentally, it seemed to tie in with the ideas I had after seeing the bird of prey above the fields.

Drifting away
Drifting through life’s gentle sway
I see a bird way up high
Who am I?

This bird she looks down
Down on me making no sound
What can she see
As she looks into me?

What can she see
What can she see
Deep in my soul
What can she see
Fragile or strong
Fragile or strong
Tell me am I
Fragile or strong

This eagle so wise
I see the light in her eyes
A light that shines through
The clouds into the blue

On eagle’s wings
On eagle’s wings
Soaring so high
On eagle’s wings
Wish they were mine
Wish they were mine
So I could fly
On eagle’s wings
